1. Information We Collect
When you use PawStory, we collect the following types of information:
Information you provide directly:
- Account information: email address (used for login and account identification)
- Pet information: name, species, birthday, photos, breed, health records
- Daily records: feeding, water, toilet, and medication logs
- Journal entries and text: text you enter in the "Write to Them" (寫給牠) feature
- Expense records: expense items and amounts you enter manually
- Photos: pet photos you upload
- Care handover information: care instructions and handover notes you enter, along with emergency contact names and phone numbers; you can choose to create a share link
- Pet care contacts: vet, grooming, boarding, or other caregiver contact details you create manually, including name, contact person, phone, address, and notes (this feature does not access or import your phone's contacts)
Information collected automatically:
- Basic device information: device model, operating system version, language settings
- Device, app instance, or platform-related identifiers: when installing or using the app, the operating system, Firebase Analytics, subscription management, or error-diagnostic services may generate or process device, installation, app-instance, or platform-related identifiers. These are used to maintain login state, identify device instances, sync subscription status, analyze overall app usage, troubleshoot issues, and improve app stability. Different platforms may involve different types of identifiers; PawStory does not currently display third-party advertising within the app and does not sell your personal data.
- Approximate location: derived by analytics tools from your network connection to an approximate region (e.g. country or city level), not precise GPS location, used to understand overall usage and improve the service
- Service usage records: login state, page or feature requests, timing of actions, etc., used to keep the service running and to troubleshoot issues
- Error logs: when the app or website encounters an issue, necessary technical logs may be generated to fix problems and improve stability
- Website analytics data: after you consent to website analytics, Google Analytics 4 (GA4) may process page views, basic interactions, device/browser type, and approximate region, used to understand overall website usage and improve the website experience
We do not collect your device's precise GPS location through the app. The website analytics tool we use (Google Analytics) may collect your approximate region (e.g. country or city level) based on your network connection, used to understand overall usage. We do not access or import your phone's contacts; the "Pet Care Contacts" feature in the app only stores information you manually enter, such as your regular vet, groomer, or caregiver.
2. How We Use Your Information
We use your information only for the following purposes:
- Providing PawStory's core features (recording, organizing, sharing)
- Generating the care handover note
- Keeping the service running properly, troubleshooting issues, and improving stability
We do not sell your personal data. Pet records, journal entries, photos, health content, and expense records stored within the PawStory app are not sold to third parties.
PawStory's health, medication, water, toilet, and vet-visit summary features are only used to organize the records you enter yourself; they do not constitute veterinary, medical, or diagnostic advice.
3. Data Storage and Security
Your data is stored in the cloud database and cloud storage services we use, to provide PawStory's account, records, photo, and sync functionality.
Crash reports and technical error logs may be sent to third-party error-diagnostic services, used solely to fix bugs, troubleshoot errors, and improve app stability. We do not intentionally include your journal content, pet health content, photos, or complete account information in crash reports.
- Data in transit is protected using encrypted connections
- Photos are stored privately and accessible only to authorized accounts
- We take reasonable access controls, data backups, and security checks to reduce the risk of unauthorized access, data loss, or service disruption
No cloud service can guarantee 100% uptime or absolute security, but we make reasonable efforts to protect your data.
4. Data Sharing
We share your data only in the following circumstances:
- Care handover note: You can choose to create a read-only link to share care information you select with family members or caregivers; the link expires after a set period.
- Technical service providers: We use cloud database, cloud storage, website hosting, analytics, error-tracking, or other necessary technical service providers, who process data only as needed to provide, maintain, and improve the PawStory service.
- Subscription and purchase processing: If you use a Premium paid subscription, your subscription status, purchase verification, and related transaction information may be processed by a third-party subscription management service, as well as by the Apple App Store or Google Play payment platforms. PawStory does not itself collect or store complete payment data (such as credit card numbers).
- Legal requirements: Where legally required, we cooperate with authorities as mandated by law.
5. Photos and Media Files
All photos you upload belong to you. PawStory does not use your photos for AI training, advertising, or any purpose unrelated to providing the PawStory service.
- Different versions or subscription plans may have different photo upload and storage limits; actual limits are as shown in the app.
- After you delete your account, your photos and related media files will be deleted or anonymized according to our account deletion process. Some data may be retained for a limited period for legal, financial, security, anti-abuse, dispute-resolution, audit, or technical backup reasons.
6. Children's Privacy
PawStory is intended for users aged 16 and above. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children under 16. If you believe we have inadvertently collected a child's data, please contact us and we will remove it as soon as possible.
7. Your Data Rights
Under applicable data protection laws, you may request to access, correct, delete, or export the personal data we hold about you; such requests may require manual processing and handling time.
You may also request deletion of your account and related data. Some data may need to be retained for a reasonable period for legal, financial, security, anti-abuse, or technical backup reasons before it is fully deleted.
You can make these requests through the "Data & Privacy" page in the app or by email. Some requests may require manual identity verification and processing time.
8. Cookies, Website Analytics, and App Analytics
The PawStory website uses necessary cookies or similar technologies to support the normal display and operation of the website. After you consent to website analytics, we also use Google Analytics 4 (GA4) to understand overall website usage.
GA4 may use cookies or similar technologies to process page views, common pages, basic interactions, device/browser type, and approximate region, helping us improve website content and user experience.
We primarily review aggregated reports and do not intentionally send your name, email address, phone number, or private content from the PawStory app (such as pet health records, journal entries, photos, or expense records) to GA4.
You can manage related cookies through the cookie choices provided on the website or through your browser settings. For more information, see our Cookie and website technology notice.
The PawStory app uses Firebase Analytics to understand overall app usage, such as feature usage, screen views, action events, device type, app version, and approximate region. This data is used to improve app stability, understand feature usage, and optimize the service. We do not use Firebase Analytics to read your journal content, pet health content, photos, complete account information, or private records.
If we add advertising tracking or other non-essential tracking tools in the future, we will update this policy and obtain your consent again where required.
9. Changes to This Policy
We may update this privacy policy from time to time. For material changes, we will notify you through in-app notices, website announcements, email, or other reasonable means. Continued use of PawStory means you accept the updated policy.
